The Leading Inclusively Lab is a highly experiential, full immersion experience where you will learn to foster psychologically safe and developmentally appropriate spaces for people across multiple social identity and cultural differences. We need these capacities now more than ever. All across the world, we are seeing that understanding and engaging skillfully across differences is critical and complex. As humans, we’re wired to label each other and construct reasons to elevate our group over other groups. We are seeing more and more the limitations of this wiring, especially when we commit microaggressions against individuals and groups and our unconscious biases get us in all kinds of trouble. Society and our organizations demand that we become more self-aware and inclusive. This demand challenges our identity, simple stories, and need for control. Sometimes when we try, we get it wrong and this unsettles us. This experiential program is designed to help us bring our most expansive selves to leading in more inclusive ways.

This is a Highly Experiential Program that includes:
- Taking the Intercultural Development Inventory
- Adult Development Assessment
- Small group work in between sessions
- One-on-one coaching
- Intercultural development plan
- Safe-to-fail experiments
This is serious, engaging, and daring work. You will confront the way you see and experience social identity and cultural differences. The program will challenge you to stretch your capacity to navigate across the differences that present the greatest challenge for you today. We believe this work is best done in small diverse groups where thought-provoking content is offered, dialogue is guided, open, and honest, and the learning is interactive and based on real-world situations. We will engage in developmentally grounded and social justice oriented activities and interactions. We do this so as to increase our capacity to better understand social identity differences and to develop culturally responsive and appropriate strategies for leading.
You will have a personal and experiential experience with this content. You will take the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) assessment and an adult development assessment. The Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) is an assessment tool designed to help individuals and groups assess and reflect on their orientation towards cultural differences. To engage and lead inclusively requires intercultural competence, or having the capacity to shift perspective and behavior with greater levels of complexity based on commonalities and differences with individuals and across cultures. This capacity is developmental and can expand with exposure to cultural differences, practice of inclusion, and an appropriate blend of challenge and support. That’s what we are about in this experience.
Akasha is an associate with Cultivating Leadership. He stands for people’s growth and is especially interested in adult development across cultural differences. He does a good bit of work helping to foster diversity, equity, access, and inclusion in organizations and institutions of higher learning. He facilitates retreats and other experiences for connecting people across social identity differences, such as men’s retreat for heterosexual men and men from the LGBTQI+ community and developmental lab experiences for White and Black, Indigenous, People of Color. He teaches Gender Inequality and Developmental Psychology at St. George’s University in Grenada. He holds a Ph.D. in Human Development from Fielding Graduate University. He is a professional certified coach (PCC).
Vernice is a director and faculty of adult development at Georgetown University’s Institute for Transformational Leadership. She graduated from the University of Maryland with an undergraduate degree in Economics. She also holds a Masters degree in Finance and a Masters in Business Administration from the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business. Vernice has completed coaching certification through the Coaches Training Institute, and ORSC (Organizational and Relationship Systems Coaching). She has been designated by the International Coaching Federation as an MCC (Master Certified Coach). Vernice has worked on a number of community development projects including an Origami camp for girls in South Carolina, an English language program for Chinese seniors, and a program for church elders at a church with locations in South Africa, Zambia and Nigeria. Since the Covid-19 pandemic began, Vernice has led Women’s Leader Circles to support women leaders.

If the course is under-enrolled, we reserve the right to cancel 28 days prior to the event, and refund your registration fee in full.
